Common questions about DinnerList, and how to reach us.
Do I need an account to use DinnerList?
No. DinnerList works straight away using a random, anonymous identifier stored on your device — no name, email, or Apple ID required. You can optionally bind an email and password from Settings → Sync & Protect Your Data so you can restore your lists after reinstalling the app, but it’s never mandatory.
How does sharing a list work?
Create a share link for a shopping list in the app, then send it to anyone. They can open it in a web browser and view or edit that one list in real time — no app install and no account needed. Only that shopping list is shared; your dishes and recipes stay private. Share links stay active until you use Delete My Data in the app’s Settings, which permanently removes your lists and their share links. Individual link revocation is coming in a future update.
Someone I shared with sees stale items, or changes aren’t syncing.
DinnerList syncs whenever the app or the shared web page has a working internet connection. If updates aren’t showing, check the connection on both devices, then close and reopen the list to force a refresh. If a link stops working entirely, its owner may have used Delete My Data, which removes all of their lists and links — ask them for a fresh link.
Is DinnerList available on Android?
Not yet — DinnerList is currently iOS only. Anyone can still open and edit a shared list from an Android phone through the web, using the share link.
Is DinnerList free? Are there ads?
DinnerList is free. There are no ads, no third-party tracking, and no analytics or crash-reporting SDKs from other companies.
How do I delete my data?
Open Settings → Delete My Data in the app. This permanently removes your shopping lists, dishes, recipes, and share links from our servers and clears everything stored on your device. Deleting the app alone does not remove server-side data — iOS gives us no way to detect an uninstall. If you can no longer open the app, email support@dinnerlist.me and we’ll remove it for you.
Are my photos and lists private?
Product photos you attach to items never leave your device — they are not uploaded to our servers. Your dishes and recipes never leave your device either. Your shopping lists stay private to your device identifier until you choose to create a share link.
I lost my list, or I’m switching phones.
Your lists are tied to the anonymous identifier stored in your device’s Keychain (your dishes, recipes, and photos stay on the device and are not synced at all). Without an account, that identifier does not transfer to a new phone, so your lists won’t follow you automatically. To carry data across devices, bind an email and password first via Settings → Sync & Protect Your Data, then sign in on the new device.
